Houssem Aouar swaps France for Italy in free transfer

Roma have officially secured the services of midfielder Houssem Aouar on a free transfer. The announcement of the signing was made by the club through their official website.

The 24-year-old has committed to a five-year contract with Roma, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2028.

“I’m very happy to have signed for Roma, because they’re a great club with a great history,” Aouar said.

“I think it’s the right project for me, with a big team, quality players and a unique fanbase. I’m now a Giallorossi player and I’m ready to go.”

Aouar’s football journey began at Lyon, where he progressed through their youth academy starting at the age of 11. He made his debut for the first team in 2017. During his time at the club, Aouar has accumulated 179 appearances in Ligue 1, contributing 30 goals and 24 assists.

“Aouar is a young player who’s already made more than 250 professional appearances,” Roma’s General Manager Tiago Pinto said. “He has technical quality and the prerequisites to keep getting better.

“His desire to come to Roma, despite having attracted interest from several top clubs, is a source of satisfaction for us all.”

Aouar will wear the No. 22 shirt for the club.
