Naby Keita joins Werder Bremen on a free transfer

Naby Keita has joined Werder Bremen after his departure from Liverpool this summer, signing a three-year contract with the German club.

Werder Bremen announced the arrival of the Guinean midfielder on a free transfer, marking Keita’s return to Germany following his previous stint with RB Leipzig.

Keita expressed his excitement about the new challenge at Bremen.

“I’m really excited for my new challenge here in Bremen,” Keita said.

“I was impressed by what the club told me about the setup here and Werder’s style of play. The coach gave me a really good feeling and showed how I can help the team.”

Keita initially joined Liverpool in 2017 for a fee of £48 million. He spent the 2017-18 season with RB Leipzig before moving to Merseyside the following campaign.

During his five seasons with Liverpool, the 28-year-old made 129 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists. He was part of Jurgen Klopp’s successful team, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.

Although Keita arrived at Liverpool with high expectations, his time at Anfield was marred by injury problems. He started only two Premier League matches this season due to significant injuries.

Keita’s departure adds to the list of midfielders leaving Liverpool this summer, including James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The announcement comes shortly after Liverpool completed the signing of midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for a fee of £35 million on Thursday.
