Brighton sign highly experienced midfielder on a free transfer

Brighton have officially announced the acquisition of James Milner on a one-year contract, with the option to extend, once his current contract with Liverpool expires on June 30.

The 37-year-old midfielder has had a successful eight-year tenure at Anfield, accumulating 328 appearances with the Premier League powerhouse.

During his time at Liverpool, he achieved numerous accolades, including winning the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup, and League Cup.

Despite Jurgen Klopp’s efforts to retain the experienced midfielder, Milner will depart the club at the end of this month when his contract expires.

Milner began his career at Leeds United, debuting at the young age of 16 in 2002. He subsequently signed a five-year contract in 2003 before moving on to Newcastle. Following his time at Newcastle, the midfielder excelled at Aston Villa and Manchester City before ultimately joining Liverpool.

For the 2023-2024 season, Milner will join Brighton and utilize his wealth of experience to assist the team in navigating European football, a feat they achieved for the first time in their history.
