Newcastle have shown interest in signing Kim Min-jae, following Manchester United’s pursuit of the Napoli defender as one of their top targets for the summer transfer window.
The Magpies, aiming to strengthen their defense after securing Champions League football, will compete with United for Kim’s signature.
According to reports Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has identified Kim as the defender he wishes to acquire during the upcoming transfer window.
Kim, who played a crucial role in helping Napoli secure their first Serie A title since 1990 in his debut season at the club, has attracted attention from several clubs.
He possesses a release clause in his contract that will be active in the first half of July, which Newcastle aim to activate. However, Howe faces a challenging task as reports suggest that a move to Old Trafford is already in the advanced stages.
Reports suggest that Manchester United have even identified a residence for Kim to live in following the deal. It is stated that Kim will have a significant role at United since four of their defenders are expected to depart this summer.

Furthermore, the report indicates that Kim will definitely leave Napoli at the end of the season, irrespective of the club’s efforts to retain him.
In Italy, Kim made 33 appearances in the top-flight league and delivered strong performances during Napoli’s promising Champions League campaign.
He joined Napoli at the beginning of the season, signing a three-year contract with an option for the club to extend it for an additional two years.
Napoli secured his services for a fee of £16 million (€18.5 million) from Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce, aiming to fill the void left by Kalidou Koulibaly.
If Manchester United wants to acquire Kim, they would need to meet his reported release clause, set at £56 million.
