Liverpool have finalized the signing of World Cup winning midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton. The transfer fee is believed to be initially around £35 million, with potential to rise to £55 million.
Mac Allister, who joined Brighton from Argentinos Juniors, had a four-year spell at the club, including two loan stints in his native Argentina. Liverpool had identified him as a key target even before the World Cup, appreciating his versatility on the field.
Expressing his excitement, Mac Allister said in an interview with Liverpool’s official website, “It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started.
“I wanted to be in [from] the first day of pre-season, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my team-mates.

“It was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.”
The arrival of the 24-year-old midfielder is expected to mark the beginning of a busy summer transfer window for Liverpool, as manager Jurgen Klopp aims to rejuvenate a team that missed out on Champions League qualification in the previous season.
The midfield position is particularly in need of reinforcement, with Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner departing the club due to contract expirations, and Arthur Melo set to return to Juventus following the end of his loan deal.
Milner’s move to Brighton is close to being finalized, indicating an imminent switch to the Amex Stadium for the experienced player.
