UEFA has officially charged Roma manager Jose Mourinho for using offensive and abusive language towards referee Anthony Taylor following the Europa League final.
This charge is among the ten charges issued by UEFA in the aftermath of Wednesday’s final, which ended in a penalty shootout victory for Sevilla.
Roma has received six charges, including insulting and abusive language towards a match official, as well as throwing objects, lighting fireworks, acts of damage, crowd disturbances, and improper conduct by the team.
Sevilla, on the other hand, has been charged with four offenses, namely invasion of the field of play, throwing objects, lighting fireworks, and improper conduct by the team.
As per UEFA regulations, Mourinho’s charge carries a minimum two-game suspension, although the UEFA Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body hold the authority to extend it further if deemed necessary.

Mourinho’s charge stems from an incident where he was caught shouting at referee Taylor in the stadium’s car park in Budapest.
Speaking after the match the Roma boss said, “It was an intense, masculine, vibrant game with a referee who seemed Spanish. It was yellow, yellow, yellow all the time.”
The match between Roma and Sevilla was notably heated, with Taylor issuing a total of 13 yellow cards during the game. Following the match and Mourinho’s verbal altercation, Taylor was accosted by Roma fans at Budapest airport the next day.
While Taylor and his family were being escorted to a lounge, angry supporters surrounded them, and footage of the distressing scene circulated widely on social media. The video shows a chair being thrown towards Taylor and his family.
