Frank Lampard has acknowledged that his interim tenure as manager at Chelsea has provided limited learning opportunities.
Despite his status as a club legend, Lampard has managed to win only one of his ten matches since assuming the role, following the departures of Graham Potter and Bruno Saltor.
Lampard is the fourth manager to lead the team this season. Despite a promising first half against Manchester United, which saw his young forwards miss several chances, Chelsea suffered a comprehensive 4-1 defeat.
His time at Stamford Bridge will come to an end after Sunday’s final game against Newcastle, as Mauricio Pochettino takes charge.
With a regretful tone, Lampard admitted that the circumstances he faced during his tenure offered little in terms of coaching lessons.
“If you ask me what I’ve learned in this short period, in terms of coaching not so much,” Lampard told Sky Sport when asked about his future.

“If you haven’t got that basis then back-five, back-four… two in midfield, three in midfield… those things are not so important because if you can’t build up and have that endurance in training then if that’s not there from a coaching point of view there are hard things you want to do [instead].
“I’ve been in this situation as a player, with an interim and change of manager. A lot of the plus points you gain are from what the team is fighting for, what can you motivate them for. We haven’t found that as a collective, the results say so.
“This job is going to challenge you at different times, I’m certainly not the victim – I love working for this club. That’s not changed from the moment I’ve been here.
“Have I learnt much on the football side? As I say I don’t think so in this period. I did here before and I did at Everton. In this period it’s been more about what I’ve walked into and what I’ve seen, that’s been very different for me.”
