Last June, Andrea Pirlo signed a one-year contract to become the manager of Fatih Karagumruk, a Turkish football club that had finished eighth in the previous season.
However, as the current Turkish top-flight season nears its end, Pirlo has been relieved of his managerial duties as the team currently sits in ninth place.
In an official statement posted on Twitter, Fatih Karagumruk announced their decision:
“Since we will not continue with Mr. Andrea Pirlo and his staff next season, we have granted them permission to leave early so they can plan their future.
“Meanwhile, we will utilize the remaining time effectively, aiming to win our remaining games and then strategize for the future.
“We are grateful to have spent a season with Andrea and thank him for his contributions to our club. We wish him the best in his future endeavors!”
Pirlo’s first venture into management was with Serie A giants Juventus, but his tenure ended after the 2020-21 season due to their underwhelming performances in both the Champions League and Serie A.
After a year away from managerial roles, the 44-year-old was appointed by Fatih Karagumruk to lead their team in the Turkish top flight.
Pirlo’s departure from Karagumruk follows a string of three consecutive losses, culminating in a 4-1 defeat against Trabzonspor on Monday.
During his year in charge, the Italian manager achieved 11 victories out of 34 matches. With three games remaining in the Turkish Super Lig season, the team’s next match will be a home game against Kayserispor on Tuesday.
