Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has praised his team following their win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
Winners of the Champions League Los Blancos started their season with a bang as they defeated the winners of the Europa League Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 to lift the Super Cup trophy.
The Spanish champions proved too strong for their Bundesliga opponents as goals in either half by David Alaba and Karim Benzema sealed a comfortable win in their favour.
The president lauded his team for their display but urged them to remain focused on the season that lay ahead.
“We have had a good season and we are very excited about this Super Cup,” Perez told Movistar after watching his side win the European Super Cup. “First we have to make merits to reach the finals and then win them. We have a great team, it’s a job well done.
“[Carlo] Ancelotti manages this squad very well, he is an important part of the success and we start this new season, which begins on Sunday with great enthusiasm. This year it is true that everything has gone well for us and no one can be dissatisfied, but we have to keep working, every day we work on our future.
“We must continue to train well, Ancelotti has managed the squad, we are not considering anything else at the moment.”

The president was quizzed on how much faith the club had in Benzema as their refusal to sign a backup striker this summer has been clear.
“Look at all the strikers we have,” Perez said. “He [Benzema] won’t get sick, but if he does, we have so many strikers that it won’t be noticed. Ballon d’Or? In my opinion, he already deserved it last year and even more so this year.”
When asked to comment on the financial and sporting struggles of Spanish rivals Barcelona, Perez backed them to bounce back to their best.
“Barça… there are seasons that we all do better or worse but Barça is one of the most important institutions in the world along with Madrid, it has to return to being what it is and that is good for everyone, for world soccer.”
The Super Cup win became the 17th out of 19 finals that Real Madrid have won since 2014 and the president was quick to caution fans that the club will not always win forever.
“We can’t win everything all our lives,” he added. “But we will work to continue giving satisfaction to our fans, we are in an optimal situation.”
