Guardiola reveals how he intends to use his summer signings

Manchester City have brought in a number of players in the summer transfer window and manager Pep Guardiola has responded to questions concerning how he would be using them when the season kicks off.

The champions of England have made three signings thus far and may be on course to recruit more players to their squad after seeing quite a number of players leave as well.

Erling Braut Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Stefan Ortega are the three signings recruited by Guardiola’s side and the City boss has been quizzed on how he intends to utilise them.

“If we play with tighter wings, I see [Alvarez] as complementary to Haaland,” the manager responded to ESPN when asked if the Haaland and Alvarez would play together.

“If we play with more open flanks, not so much. Julian has already adapted. A good player can adapt in the space of two afternoons. If you’ve got it, you’ve got it in Argentina and in England.”

The 22-year-old has had his ability to adapt to the Premier League questioned as he has only ever played for one club, River Plate, in his entire professional career so far.

“We were not wrong about Julian. He is a team player,” Guardiola added.

“He can score, he knows where the goal is. He is an extraordinary signing. We are going to make the most of Gallardo’s work and we hope to add some things to his game. We want him to feel good, he has already adapted.

“Julian has come from a big team, with the obligation to win and keep winning. That is what River is about, just like Boca. That is drummed into a player’s head. We also bought that mentality.”

Known to always rotate his squad due to the star-studded quality he has available at his disposal, it remains to be seen how much game time Guardiola’s new recruits get.

A chance to perhaps have an insight to the Man City boss’ selection going into the season presents itself on Saturday when they face rivals Liverpool in the Community Shield.
