New Roma signing Paulo Dybala has revealed the reason why he opted to join Jose Mourinho in Rome after leaving Juventus as a free agent.
Having been used to winning in Turin where the forward won five titles in his seven years at the club, he admitted to being swayed by Roma’s project which echoed his winning ambitions.
Mourinho led his Roma squad to Europa Conference League silverware last season while also securing a Europa league spot by finishing sixth in Serie A.
“The first thing I asked the coach was what we aim to win,” Dybala told the media. “I like to win, him too.
“Both Mourinho and the club have given me certainties, here there is great confidence and awareness. This is very important for to go forward and to pursue the objectives. I will try to give my best and bring my experience to continue winning.
“I talked a lot with the director, with the coach and with the president, knowing how this team is being built, I didn’t have many doubts.”
The Argentina forward also opened up about the circumstances that led to his leaving Juventus, revealing he was no longer part of the club’s project.
“I think the [Juventus] director [Maurizio] Arrivabene was very clear, we had an agreement to sign in October and then the club asked us to wait,” Dybala said.
“In March the company told us that I would not be part of the future project. It was not a problem. Financially, the club made another decision together with the coach. I said that if this was their choice, it wasn’t a problem for me.”
Since moving to Roma, Dybala has been at the receiving end of a great reception by the fans who have made no secret of just how glad they are to have him at the club.
