PSG forward Kylian Mbappe was amongst the recipients of the 2022 Ligue 1 Awards handed out to deserving players for their performance over the course of the season.
The UNFP awards are given annually by the National Union of Professional Football Players to players playing in France’s Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, as well as to managers and referees.
For the 2022 Ligue 1 Awards, Mbappe was honoured as the player of the year having scored 25 goals and provided 17 assists so far this season, the highest in both categories.
The 23-year-old shrugged off competition from Dimitri Payet (Marseille), Lucas Paquetá (Lyon), Wissam Ben Yedder (Monaco) and Martin Terrier (Rennes) to win the award for the third consecutive year.
Mbappe’s teammate Gianluigi Donnarumma also picked up an award as he was awarded the Ligue 1 best goalkeeper.
Marseille defender William Saliba who is on loan from Arsenal picked up the Best Young Player of the year award.
Despite not managing to be a regular starter at Arsenal, Saliba has impressed on loan at Marseille. His performances also earned him a maiden call-up to the France senior team.

Rennes manager Bruno Genesio was given the Best Manager of the year award beating the likes of Antoine Kombouaré (Nantes), Jorge Sampaoli (Marseille), Julien Stéphan (Strasbourg), and Christophe Galtier (Nice) to the award.
Genesio is rewarded for his amazing campaign with Rennes who are working towards a top three finish to qualify for a Champions League place.
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema was also recognised during the awards ceremony as he was named the best French player abroad.
Benzema, Mohamed Salah and Mbappe are amongst the leading contenders to land the ballon d’Or which will be awarded to the best player in the world later in the year.
