Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has accused Mikel Arteta of always complaining and says his advice to the Arsenal manager is for him to stop complaining.
The Italian coached his side to an emphatic 3-0 win over the Gunners who delivered a poor showing at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium especially having gone a man down as early as the first half.
A foul by Cedric Soares in the Gunners’ penalty area resulted in an early penalty which was calmly converted by Harry Kane.
Minutes later, Arsenal defender Rob Holding was given his marching orders after being shown a second yellow card for his second bookable offence.
Things went from bad to worse for Arsenal when Kane doubled his side’s lead moments later to give them a commanding lead going into the break.
A likely demoralised Gunners side were shocked in the opening stages of the second half when Son Heung-Min added to the hosts tally to but the tie beyond reach.
While Arteta blamed the referee for his side’s loss, Conte insists his side deserved the win and advised his counterpart to stop complaining all the time.
“[Arteta] is a really good coach, he can become an important coach in the future,” Conte told Sky Sports when quizzed about Arteta’s comments. “But in six months I have listened to him complain a lot.
“He’s just started in his job, and I have listened to him complain a lot. I think he has to be focused more on his team, and not complaining. I think he has to be calmer, and try to continue to work because he is very good. But a coach complaining a lot is not good.

“The red card [to Holding] for me was clear. Don’t forget against Liverpool, I said nothing about what happened with Fabinho. If we want to complain, we have the possibility every game to speak about the referee, decisions, postponed games.
“If you remember, he complained about the [postponed] fixture. At the time I said it was not good to complain, because Arsenal were happy to postpone the game in an incredible way for Covid positives, and they only had one player with Covid. I did not forget this.”
Due to a reported Covid breakout in the Arsenal squad, the tie had been postponed and rescheduled after a request from Arsenal was accepted. Conte admitted he was not pleased with the arrangement but that it gave his side added motivation going into the tie.
He added: “I think for sure [the postponement was a motivation]. It wasn’t a good situation, we were ready to play at that time and to see it postponed in that way made us a bit angry. But we know this is the past, the present is different.
“I have said before I would like to play against Arsenal with all the players available. I think my players were a bit angry for the first game too, because we lost 3-1. It was an important target tonight.”
With the win, Spurs have managed to reignite their quest for Champions League qualification and also extend their impressive unbeaten run at home against their city rivals to eight matches.
Conte’s men are now just a point below Arsenal with two games left and while that could be a huge motivation going forward, even if they win their remaining games, they’ll have to depend on results elsewhere to favour them.
