Aston Villa have announced the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.
Coutinho made a six-month loan move to Aston Villa during the winter transfer window but has now made the move permanent in a reported €20m deal.
The amount Aston Villa paid to land Coutinho on a permanent deal is a far cry from the £146m Barcelona shovelled out to Liverpool for the services of the 29-year-old in 2018.
At Barcelona, the player failed to replicate his Liverpool form only managing 26 goals in 106 games for the club.
With the emergence of their financial issues, the Spanish giants were desperate to get him off their wage will even if it meant they had to count their losses.
Barcelona confirmed the permanent departure of the Brazilian in a statement on Thursday, wishing him the best going forward.
“Barcelona would like to publicly state their thanks to Philippe Coutinho for his commitment and dedication, and wish him success and all the best for the future.”

Speaking on the acquisition, Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard said he was glad Coutinho agreed to a permanent deal and lauded the player’s contribution to the squad.
“This is a brilliant signing for Aston Villa,” Gerrard said. “Phil is a model professional and his impact on the group has been very clear since he joined in January.
“With the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch, he’s also a valuable role model for our younger players, who can only benefit from his experience.
“As we look to build towards next season, it is incredible to work at a club that executes its business so decisively and smoothly.”
Coutinho has scored four goals and provided three assists in his 16 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa.
