Man City boss Pep Guardiola has bemoaned the lack of support his side receives from the media and from people in England in general claiming they all support Liverpool.
Man City defeated Newcastle 5-0 to go three points clear at the top of the Premier League table and hence throwing a spanner in Liverpool’s expectations of winning the quadruple.
Liverpool who were just one point behind Guardiola’s side, were tipped for the quadruple after already securing the Carabao Cup and then getting to the finals of both the FA Cup and Champions League.
However, the Reds dropped points in their match against Spurs which inadvertently let City open up a three-point gap after their win against Newcastle.
Now, it seems more likely that Manchester City would be crowned champions at the end of the season instead of Liverpool if Guardiola’s men are able to win their remaining matches.
“A week ago, nobody [thought we would be champions],” Guardiola told beIN SPORTS after the match.
“Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone. Of course, Liverpool has an incredible history in Europe. Not in the Premier League – they’ve won one in 30 years.

“[But] the situation is what it is. We have to [take] nine points, maybe six right now. It depends what is going to happen over the next two games.
“Wednesday [against Wolves] is a real, real, real final for us. Our destiny is in our hands, and this is important.”
Manchester City have Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa left of their remaining matches of the season. They have their destiny in their hands now and would only need to win all three matches to be crowned champions.
Liverpool on the other hand would have to win their matches against Aston Villa, Southampton and Wolves and then hope City drop points in order to stand a chance.
Regardless of whether the support from the media or anyone else is for Liverpool or Man City, Guardiola knows what he must do to win the title at the end of the season.
