Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has outlined the reason why winning the quadruple is so difficult in England after his side dropped points against Tottenham hence losing ground in the title race.
The Reds had to come back from behind to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw against Antonio Conte’s men at Anfield on Saturday night.
Both sides had their chances but none was converted until Son Heung-Min put the away side ahead in the second half, tapping home from close range.
However, Klopp’s men rallied back and grabbed an equaliser via winter signing Luis Diaz who struck from outside the 18-yard box. Neither side could add to their tally as the match ended all square.
While Liverpool are momentarily topping the table being level on points with Manchester City but superior in goal difference, the result means Klopp’s side have now lost ground in their pursuit of the title with City having a game in hand.
Reacting to his side’s draw, Klopp admitted that winning the quadruple seems highly unlikely now. He however gave plaudits to his team for being mentally strong enough to get an equaliser.
“A difficult game, but I’m really happy with the performance of my boys against a top team that might play Champions League next season,” Klopp told BBC Match of the Day.
“[Tottenham] have world class strikers on the pitch set-up for counter-attacking. It makes life not easy, 1-0 down is difficult and we kept calm and forced the equaliser.

“Our mentality was incredible and the counter-pressing was a different level. But we faced an opponent set-up for counter-attacks with a full week to prepare, we accept that and it is a draw.
“We will keep going. We weren’t tired. You are not as precise at the end of the game. [The players] are down in the dressing room, it was intense. When you play top teams, you need luck in the decisive moments.
“I’m not happy, but not as sad as the players are right now and it is my job to explain why something happens like this. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were completely rested, that is why it is so hard.
“That is why the quadruple is so unlikely; there is a reason nobody has done it in this country. We will keep going.”
Having won the Carabao Cup earlier this year, reached the FA Cup and Champions League final, Liverpool are nursing hopes of a quadruple which Klopp now admits may be out of reach.
Liverpool still have to face Aston Villa, Southampton and Wolves in their last three fixtures of the season but they may have to depend on results from elsewhere if they hope to win the title.
