Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Chelsea striker Sam Kerr were handed their “Footballer of the Year” awards after being voted best amongst the male and female players by the Football Writers’ Association.
The award is Salah’s second FWA football player of the year award after previously winning it in 2018.
Salah garnered 48% of the vote, winning the award ahead of the likes of Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.
The Liverpool forward has scored 30 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions for the Reds so far this season.
Surprisingly, the award has gone to a Liverpool or City player for five straight seasons. Manchester City defender Ruben Dias was the recipient of the award last year.
Meanwhile, for the female award, Kerr secured 40% of the vote, ahead of Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema and Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp.
The Australian has scored 28 goals in all competitions for Chelsea so far this season.
“Both Mo and Sam have been outstanding this season, breaking records for both club and country,” FWA chair Carrie Brown said.
