UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has admitted there are weaker leagues amongst the top five leagues in Europe.
Ceferin in an interview with Croatian media Sportske, once again condemned the Super League project which was spearheaded by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus to create a competition to rival UEFA’s Champions League.
He also criticised the lack of competition in both Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, pointing out that certain clubs dominate over others.
“It’s true that these two championships aren’t strong,” Ceferin told Sportske Novosti.
“Two clubs dominate. There is more competition in Italy, but they aren’t financially solid.

“The Premier League has the most tradition, the fans are different than those in Italy. When we were at war with the Super League, we were helped by English fans.
“Italians and Spaniards have done nothing. The Germans and the French did nothing either because their clubs weren’t closely involved.”
When the Super League was proposed, no French or German clubs were involved. Instead the clubs involved were from the English Premier League, Serie A and La Liga.
“It’s over. Those involved are trying to satisfy their ego a bit more, but it could never work anyway,” he said.
