Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been confirmed as Austria’s new manager on a two-year contract.
The German will juggle his Manchester United consultancy role with the Austria job after stepping down as interim manager in the summer.
Rangnick was appointed the new Austria national team manager until 2024 with an option of another two years if the country qualifies for Euro 2024.
The 63-year-old replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United at the end of November, agreeing terms to take temporary charge of the team until the summer, before remaining in a two-year consultancy role.
“It’s an honour for me to take on the role of team boss,” Rangnick said after his confirmation as the Austria manager.
“I’m particularly excited about the prospect of contesting the European Championships in Germany with a young team hungry for success.”

He added: “I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue consultancy with Man United. I’m looking forward to helping United become a real force again.”
Rangnick takes over as Austria manager after his predecessor, Franco Foda, resigned from his position following their 2-0 defeat to Wales in early April which knocked them out of qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar.
“After a very well-founded and intensive process, we were able to win Ralf Rangnick, an absolute top man with great international reputation as team boss,” said Austrian FA sporting director Peter Schottel.
“It makes me very proud and I’m really looking forward to working together.”
