Former Manchester United player Paul Scholes has labelled Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta a ‘disgrace’ and accused him of trying to incite fans to influence the referee’s decision during the clash against Manchester United on Saturday.
The Gunners ran out 3-1 winners in the Premier League clash against fellow top four rivals Manchester United with Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka doing damage to Ralf Rangnick’s men.
A moment of controversy emerged as a goal by Arsenal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review, but referee Craig Pawson later awarded a penalty for a foul on Saka instead.
The decision was questioned by Scholes who was particularly riled up after watching video footage of Arteta and his conduct on the sidelines.
“I didn’t really think of the foul, to be honest. That brings into question whether it’s a clear and obvious error, which is the only reason it should go to the VAR.
“It’s a coming together, of course it is. I think Arteta is a disgrace there. He shouldn’t be allowed to do that.

“If you see it again, he actually goes to the crowd to try and influence the referee a little. All the players around them as well. That shouldn’t be allowed but it’s a little bit clumsy from Telles.”
Regardless of the controversial moment, the Gunners played out a comfortable win against their visitors who could only muster up a goal via Cristiano Ronaldo.
The win puts them in fourth place, two points clear of fifth placed Tottenham and six points above Man United having played a game less.
Arsenal now seem in pole position to qualify for a Champions League spot with five games left of the campaign. They will face West Ham in their next match as they continue to try to cement a top four spot.
