“If it was Salah then it’s a penalty!” – Lampard Slams Liverpool Referee

Everton boss Frank Lampard believes Liverpool are usually favoured by referees and claimed his side deserved a penalty which was not awarded to them.

Lampard who saw his side slip into the relegation zone following the 2-0 defeat against Liverpool, was visibly frustrated after the match when he claimed his side deserved a penalty in the second half.

With the Toffees trailing by a goal, Anthony Gordon went down in the Liverpool box due to a challenge from centre-back Joel Matip however, the referee did not award a spot-kick.

The former Chelsea boss claimed the circumstances would have been different if it was Mohamed Salah who went down in the Everton box.

“It’s a penalty in the second half for us. I don’t think you get them here [at Anfield],” he told the media.

“If it’s Mo Salah at their end, he gets a penalty. I’m not trying to create a conflict here, it’s just the reality of football sometimes.

“Maybe I’ve played at clubs when we’re in the top reaches of the league, the crowd is behind them and you get them or you don’t.

“For me, for sure, it was a penalty on Anthony. It’s a foul and you don’t get them here.”

He added: “I think they are open to it now but it is gone. It is a disappointment, in the cold light of day I think it is a penalty.”

On the other hand, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp disagreed with his Everton counterpart, stating the incident was clearly not a penalty.

He also said the player was lucky not to have been sent off after previously being booked for simulation earlier in the match.

“It was clearly no penalty,” the Reds manager said. “He’s really good but he’s lucky not to get a second yellow. The first was not a penalty and the second wasn’t.”

Liverpool are currently on a long run of games without giving away a penalty. They are currently on a 46-game run in which they haven’t conceded a penalty.
