Tuchel To Lukaku: “Be Like Werner!”

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has advised Romelu Lukaku to be more like fellow forward Timo Werner to break back into the starting eleven of the team.

Lukaku hasn’t lived up to expectations at Stamford Bridge ever since his £98m move from Inter Milan last summer. His poor form has seen him relegated to the bench in recent games.

Tuchel now prefers to start with Kai Havertz leading the line or with Werner who had also endured a difficult spell on the sidelines before managing to prove his worth in recent games.

It is this attitude by Werner Tuchel has advised Lukaku to adopt in order to regain a starting spot for the Blues.

“What Timo has done is exactly what [Lukaku] needs to do,” Tuchel stated when asked what Lukaku needed to do to get back into the team.

“Wait, be patient, work hard and put the team first, be ready to help the team, because as a striker you can help within seconds.

“Now [Werner] has made it difficult to leave him out. I’m impressed, he was very, very good in the last two games. These were two games when he was much better than in any other game and he showed what he is capable of. Everybody thinks we as managers do the line-up, and of course we do.

“But in the end the players take care that you don’t leave them out, they do it in training or in games, and of course in games it’s the opportunity for everybody.”

Reports suggest that Lukaku has been unhappy at Chelsea and may be looking for a quick exit from the club in the summer.

The striker had attributed his struggles in the club to Tuchel not playing a style he is used to playing.

Lukaku was named the Serie A Player of the season before his move to the Bridge but hasn’t been able to replicate his form in England.
