Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
His announcement comes despite having a year left on his contract which is set to expire in June of 2023.
The 31-year-old revealed his decision on Friday evening via his official Instagram account where he wrote:

“After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision.
“It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support.
“I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my team-mates finish as strongly as possible.”
Matic has made 183 appearances for Man United since joining the club in 2017 from Chelsea in a £40million move.
Despite spending five years at the club, silverware has eluded the Serbia international as United continue to endure a trophy drought.
However, Matic has previously won two Premier League titles, FA Cup and League Cup that he won during his fruitful spell in with Chelsea.
