Burnley manager Sean Dyche has been sacked by the club with immediate effect as the club continues to be embroiled in a relegation battle.
Dyche joined Burnley in October 2012. Since then, he has twice led the club into the Premier League. He also secured European football for the first time in 51 years in 2018 after a seventh-place finish in the Premier League.
“Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the club over the last decade,” Burnley chairman Alan Pace statement read.
“During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.
“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.
“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”
U23s coach Mike Jackson, assisted by academy director Paul Jenkins, U23s goalkeeping coach Connor King and club captain Ben Mee have been asked to take charge of the team for Sunday’s game with West Ham.
Burnley find themselves four points adrift of safety after the 2-0 defeat to fellow relegation rivals Norwich City last week. They have won just one of their last seven Premier League games.
Dyche is the 10th manager to be sacked this season in the Premier League, following the sacking of Xisco Munoz, Steve Bruce, Nuno Espirito Santo, Daniel Farke, Dean Smith, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Rafa Benitez, Claudio Ranieri and Marcelo Bielsa.
