Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho says he’s confident that Nigeria will defeat Ghana to secure a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Nigeria will have to battle Ghana in a double-legged fixture where the aggregate winner will book a World Cup spot.
There has been a long standing rivalry between both nations which has permeated into their competition against each other in various scopes including sports.
This is to say it’s not just a World Cup spot at stake but also bragging rights as well.
The Super Eagles are currently in Kumasi, Ghana were the first leg is set to take place and Iheanacho has been vocal about how confident he was that his side will go through.
“It’s not just a rivalry – it’s way more than that. It’s a lot of things. It’s a massive game,” the Leicester City star told the Fifa website.

“It means everything to Nigerians anyway, and this time it’s for a World Cup place. I really hope we can go through and make our people happy.
“I’m 100-per-cent confident that we will go through. Obviously they have a strong team, a strong squad, good players, and they really want to win as well, so it’s not going to be easy.
“It’s going to be a fight. We have to work really hard and want it more than them. But I have so much confidence in this Nigeria team and the group of lads we have here. I’m very confident we will be at the World Cup.”
Nigeria will have to play without Iheanacho’s teammate Wilfred Ndidi who is sidelined due to injury.
However, another of his Leicester teammate Ademola Lookman appears set to grab his first cap for Nigeria having being called up following a nationality switch from England to Nigeria.
