Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene has claimed that the arrival of Dusan Vlahovic is the main reason contract extension talks between the club and Paulo Dybala has stalled.

Dybala may well leave the club at the end of the season after contract extension talks have reportedly broken down.

The Argentina international’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and there haven’t been a headway between the club and the player on agreeing to a contract extension.

To make matters worse, the CEO of the club has all but ruled out the likelihood of a contract extension for Dybala as he admitted a change of approach by the club after signing Vlahovic in the winter transfer window.

Reports of a meeting between the club and representatives of the player emerged on Monday with both parties failing to come to an agreement.

“It was a friendly, clear and respectful meeting. We had a very sincere approach,” Arrivabene, CEO of Juventus revealed.

“With the arrival of Vlahovic, Paulo was no longer at the centre of the project and we made this decision.

“The arrival of Dusan changed the position. The technical structure of the team and the Juventus project has undergone some changes.

“Part of these changes concern Dybala’s contract, which has not been renewed.”

Juventus offered Dybala a contract extension late last year but even before the player agreed to the deal, the club planned on reducing the offer after signing Vlahovic.

However, it seems the club have decided to move on from the forward and allow him leave for free in the summer.

“It would not have been easy for Juventus to make a lower offer,” he added.

“Paulo spent seven years of his career with us, an offer of that kind would not have shown the respect that there is towards him. No one has ever questioned Dybala’s technical prowess.

“The parameters in October were different. There were considerations to be made on attendance, on the length of the contract and others of an economic nature.

“It is important to underline that the management does not take decisions against Juventus, but in favor of the club.”

Dybala joined Juventus from Palermo in 2015 and has won five Serie A titles and the Coppa Italia four times with the club during that period.

The 28-year-old has made 283 appearances in all competitions for Juve scoring 113 goals.

Many of Europe’s elite clubs are reportedly interested in securing the services of the forward, however, his future club remains unknown.
