Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández said he expected a tougher Clasico following his side’s comprehensive 4-0 win over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
After years of Clasico disappointment for Barcelona, Xavi was the architect to the performance that led the Blaugrana to finally go back to winning ways against their fierce rivals.
Goals from Ronald Araujo, Pedri and a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace condemned Real Madrid to their third defeat of the season.
Los Blancos who were without their star forward Karim Benzema due to injury, struggled to create much in the tie, making it easy for their rivals to steal the show.
“We were expecting a harder match,” Xavi said after the final whistle.
“I am very happy because of what this win means for barcelonismo, it can change the dynamic in the future.
“We looked to play behind Madrid’s midfield. We played with character and bravery. I asked the players not to lose silly balls because Madrid live for them.
“We had the game under control. We pressed high, won the ball back in their half. I think we were superior and could have scored more goals.”

The Barcelona boss also spoke about the harmony inside the dressing room and how the players enjoy playing football.
“This is the path to follow and the perfect model of play to compete. The players are enjoying themselves, we’re a family in the dressing room.
“I am very proud, very happy. It’s a day to enjoy. It was spectacular, Barça are coming back. There has not been a lot of joy recently, above all in Clasicos. And as well as coach, I am a fan. We will celebrate it.”
Despite the win, Barcelona are still 12 points behind Real Madrid in La Liga, so in reality, there’s still a long way to go.
However, being in the top three after the rocky start to the season will please Xavi and his side as they’ve managed to completely turn their fortunes around.
Barcelona will face another tough test in Sevilla who are second on the log after the international break.
But for now, Barca will bask in the euphoria of having bested their greatest rivals and putting their season back on track.
