La Liga Chief Javier Tebas has revealed that he would like Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona, as it would help boost the league’s quality.
Messi left Barcelona after 21 years at the club because the club couldn’t afford to renew his contract due to financial issues.
However, having joined PSG for free in the summer, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has failed to replicate his Barcelona form.
Rumours suggest Messi is reportedly “home sick” and would really like to make a return to Barcelona.
Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Tebas has urged Messi to return to Barcelona as it would be profitable for both parties.
“I think Messi has two or three years left at a really good level. Messi at 80% of what we have seen is still at the top level, so if I could see Messi back in Spain, I would be delighted,” Tebas explained.

“I think Messi would return to Barcelona if he came back to Spain on very different economic terms, so it would not be, in inverted commas, such a ‘burden’ [on Barca’s finances].
“I think the marriage between Messi and Barcelona was perfect and I think a reconciliation would generate significant financial synergies for both parties.
“I think it would be good on an economic level. On a sporting level I have no idea. At the end of the day, I can’t analyze that side of things or the dressing room.”
A return to Barcelona for Messi is unlikely this year as the Argentine is under contract with PSG till next year.
Hence, any plans to leave France before his contract expires will be extremely difficult.
However, this is football and just like Messi shocked the world by leaving Barcelona for free, he could yet make a sensational return to the club that made him who he is.
