Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has given an update on Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi after the injury he suffered in his side’s Conference League clash with Rennes.

Ndidi was substituted on the hour in Leicester’s 2-1 defeat to Rennes on Thursday with initial thoughts on the injury not positive.

The midfielder went in on a 50-50 challenge in his own box with an opposition player and came out worse.

He couldn’t continue the game and was in obvious pain as he hobbled off the pitch and was replaced with James Maddison.

Speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League tie this weekend, Rodgers appeared to rule out the 25-year-old for a lengthy period.

“Wilfred Ndidi, we just have to assess,” he said.

“He picked up an injury that might keep him out for a few weeks, which is a shame.”

The timing of Ndidi’s injury is bad as the Super Eagles star appears likely to miss the double legged World Cup qualifiers playoffs against Ghana later this month.

Ndidi has become a mainstay in midfield for both Leicester and Nigeria. Indeed he will be a big miss for club and country.
