Chelsea official shirt sponsors “Three” have chosen to suspend their deal with the Blues following the sanctions imposed on club owner Roman Abramovich by the UK government.
Abramovich was sanctioned for his connection and apparent close relationship with the president of Russia Vladimir Putin who is leading the invasion of Ukraine.
One of the implications of the sanctions is that the West London club will henceforth be unable to sell kits or any of their merchandise.
This verdict has led the shirt sponsors “three” to reevaluate their deal with Chelsea.
“In light of the government’s recently announced sanctions, we have requested Chelsea Football Club temporarily suspend our sponsorship of the club, including the removal of our brand from shirts and around the stadium until further notice,” a Three spokesperson said.
“We recognise that this decision will impact the many Chelsea fans who follow their team passionately. However, we feel that given the circumstances, and the Government sanction that is in place, it is the right thing to do.

“As a mobile network, the best way we can support the people of Ukraine is to ensure refugees arriving in the UK from the conflict and customers currently in Ukraine can stay connected to the people who matter to them.
“Therefore, we are offering connectivity packages to all Ukrainians arriving in the UK, and those in Ukraine.”
With the directive, it is unlikely Chelsea will be able to play in their customary home kit carrying the “3” logo in tonight’s game against Norwich.
Chelsea are also sponsored by sporting apparel giants Nike. However, they are yet to issue a statement on the sanctioning of Abramovich.
