Liverpool forward, Mohammed Salah, has stated that he was shocked to see the final results of the 2021 Ballon d’Or.
The shock obviously means he felt he deserved more than what he got after the Egyptian finished seventh in the rankings.
The Liverpool forward has admitted it was hard to take but believes that he has done enough in his career that would make him happy and proud.
Salah also stated that if he died today, he would have already accomplished what he wanted from his career.
Speaking on Egyptian TV and the DMC channel, he said:
“It shocked me not doing better in Ballon d’Or voting, but there’s nothing I can say. No one in the world expected that I would be seventh, but that’s what happened.”
Also reacting to not making the FIFA World XI, he said:
“I do not feel the conspiracy theory, but there may be inaccurate choices, and there are many countries which aren’t popular with football knowledge and so far from it.
“I do not know their choices based on what, but I do not believe in the conspiracy theory.
“I don’t have the feeling that there is anything personal against me specifically in the FIFA choices, but this is the reality we are dealing with.”

The prolific forward also discussed further about his career thus far and how he feels about people that make positive comments about him;
“There are no words to describe how I feel about people’s positive comments towards me or to be a reason for their hope.
“Today, if I died, It would be after achieving a lot of things that I wanted to achieve.
“People don’t realize how happy I am when I come to play for the national team, it’s an honor for me to wear the national team shirt.
“The most important match I played in my life was the qualifying match for the World Cup 2018 against Congo, my happiness after the winning goal was indescribable.”
Salah can now turn his attention to the 2022 Ballon d’Or if he hopes to achieve a better result or position in this year’s edition.
What are the chances of Salah winning the 2022 Ballon d’Or?
The Egyptian King already has 19 league goals for Liverpool so far this season, the most by a player in the Premier League and one of the best tallies in Europe.
The 29-year-old also leads the way in the assists chart as well with 10 assists, joint top with teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Having already won the League Cup trophy this season, Salah can attain a better position in this year’s Ballon d’Or rankings if Liverpool go on to win the Champions League and Premier League.
Liverpool are already halfway through the round of 16 after their 2-0 win over Inter Milan in the first leg. They impressed onlookers by having remained unbeaten throughout the group stages and may well be on course for another Champions League title.
The Reds have also progressed to the FA Cup quarter finals after seeing off Norwich in midweek. They are also six points behind league leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.
With Liverpool having already won a trophy and still competing in several fronts, this year could potentially be a remarkable year for Salah.
There is no better chance for Salah to get the ground running than to successfully secure a place for Egypt in the World Cup in Qatar.
His country will have to get past Senegal in the World Cup playoffs which is scheduled to take place later in March.
