Burnley have announced the signing of Netherlands striker Wout Weghorst from Wolfsburg for a reported fee of £12 million.
Weghorst joins Burnley as a direct replacement for the departed Chris Wood, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract at the club.
Weghorst is a key signing for Burnley who lost their main striker Wood to relegation rivals Newcastle in the January transfer window.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Burnley manager Sean Dyche revealed he was pleased with the club signing Weghorst.
“Wout is a player that our scouts have been strong on for some time and we feel that he can add to all that we do at Burnley Football Club.
“His signing is a continued show of the club’s and team’s development. We wish Wout well as he earns the right to push our group forwards.”

Burnley chairman Alan Pace also gave his thoughts on Weghorst: “I’d like to wish Wout a very warm welcome to Burnley Football Club.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have brought in a great talent with a fantastic goalscoring pedigree in Germany. I look forward to him joining up with Sean and the team.
“January is a famously difficult window, as we all know. I am however delighted that a lot of hard work by everyone involved has paid off.”
What does Weghorst bring to Burnley?
Burnley pride themselves in the physicality of their play and players don’t get much physical than their latest signing Weghorst who stands at 6 ft 6 in.
Weghorst is not just tall but has proven to be a good goal scorer as well having scored 70 goals in 144 appearances at Wolfsburg.
The club will be hoping he would be able to replicate his goalscoring abilities as they fight to escape the relegation zone.
Burnley are four points from safety as they remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table. This is largely because the club have played the fewest number of matches so far this season only managing to play 18 out of 23 possible games due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the club.
Burnley have been in the Premier League since gaining promotion in 2016 having won the Championship the previous season. They will certainly not want to return to the Championship after all these years in the top-flight.
Burnley return to action against fellow relegation strugglers Watford on Saturday, February 5.
