Nigeria international Samuel Kalu is the latest to sign for Watford as the club bolsters their squad in a bid to remain in the Premier League.
Watford announced the signing of Kalu from Ligue 1 club Bordeaux on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
He joins the Hornets for a reported fee of around £3m on a deal that will see him remain at the club until 2025.
Kalu becomes the second Nigerian to sign for Watford after the club secured the services of Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye who was then loaned back to Sparta Rotterdam for the remainder of the 2021/2022 season.
He joins Super Eagles teammates Emmanuel Dennis, William Troost-Ekong and Oghenekaro Etebo as the Nigerian players at the club.
Watford sign Kalu after three and a half years with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux. He scored nine goals in 86 appearances for the French club.
The 24-year-old has 17 caps for Nigeria and has scored twice for the Super Eagles. He was however, not involved with the Nigeria squad for the Africa Cup of Nations as he was not called up.
Kalu will hope to make his mark with Watford in the Premier League like other Nigerian players like Leicester duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, Everton’s Alex Iwobi, amongst others.
He will link up with fellow Nigerian Emmanuel Dennis in attack for Watford who are waist deep in relegation battle.
Kalu signs for Watford just a day after it was confirmed that Roy Hodgson will take over the managerial reins at the club following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri.
Watford currently sit in 19th place in the league standings having managed just 14 points all season.
They have got busy in the winter transfer window in an attempt to turn their fortunes around and escape the relegation zone.
Other than Samuel Kalu, some other players to sign for Watford in January are Hassan Kamara, Edo Kayembe and Samir.
