The Super Eagles turned up in style to their Group D final fixture of the 2021 AFCON group stages defeating Guinea Bissau 2-0 on Wednesday night.
Group D comprises of Nigeria, Egypt, Guinea Bissau and Sudan, all of which had a fair chance at qualification going into the game.
It has been one of the most straightforward groups so far in the competition with three-time AFCON winners, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, intimidating everyone else and getting maximum points.
Guinea Bissau vs Nigeria
The Super Eagles went into the game having already qualified to the knockout stages so there was nothing but pride to play for.
However, that didn’t change their motivation to win as they put pressure on their opponents in a dominant display.
Sadiq Umar opened the scoring for the three-time AFCON winners in the second half, tapping in from the near post.
Nigeria soon doubled their advantage via captain Troost-Ekong after some brilliant play from Moses Simon at the edge of the box ended with his attempt ricocheting off the crossbar and into the path of Ekong in the six-yard area.
The goal was initially disallowed for offside however, upon VAR review, it was allowed to stand.
Guinea Bissau created little to nothing to threaten the Nigerian defence and hence couldn’t find a way back into the game. It ended 2-0 in favour of Nigeria.

The Pharaohs grabbed a first half goal courtesy of Mohamed Abdelmoneim who headed in a corner from the near post to take the lead against their opponents.
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah who has had a relatively quiet outing so far was successfully caged by the Sudan defence preventing him from impacting the game.
Despite that, the Egyptian King had a couple of chances which he wasn’t able to pull off.
There were no other goals in the match as Egypt held on to the three points that ensured their qualification.
