Guinea needed a win to stake a claim to the group’s top spot going into the match.

However, the National Elephants were stunned by a Knowledge Musona strike in the 26th minute, which put his side ahead for the first time in the competition.

The Warriors soon doubled their lead just before half-time through Kudakwashe Mahachi.

Guinea soon regained their composure in the second half and pulled a goal back through a thunderous strike by Naby Keita.

However it was too little too late for Guinea to muster up a comeback as Zimbabwe ran out 2-1 winners, earning their first points of the competition.

Implications of the games on 2021 AFCON Group B

Senegal’s draw with Malawi means they finish as group winners with five points.

Guinea finish as runners-up despite being level on points with Malawi with four points. This is because Guinea have a superior head-to-head record against Malawi in this competition, having won their encounter by a lone goal.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe are eliminated and Malawi will have to settle for a place in the best losers list with their chances on the high side with four points.
