Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and others were recipients of awards in the 2021 edition of the FIFA The Best awards ceremony which was held in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday night.
The award recognises players who have been exceptional and consistent in 2021 for club and country.
The most coveted award of the night, the 2021 FIFA The Best Men’s Player award, was given to Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski.
Lewandowski fended off competition from Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah for the award which he has now won back to back.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was declared winner of the 2021 FIFA The Best Men’s Coach ahead of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Italy manager Roberto Mancini.
The Chelsea boss had a memorable 2021 winning the Champions League and European Super Cup within months of taking charge of the London club.
Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was given the best goalkeeper award ahead of PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer.
Former Tottenham player Erik Lamela was the recipient of the Puskas award given for the best goal in 2021.

Lamela’s Rabona goal against Arsenal at the Emirates fought off competition from Patrik Schick’s long range goal at the Euro 2020 and Mehdi Taremi’s strike for Porto against Chelsea in the Champions League.
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo was given a special award on the night.
The 36-year-old was handed the FIFA Special Best award for breaking the international goalscoring record with Portugal in 2021.
Ronaldo has 115 international goals for his country breaking the record previously held by Ali Daei who had 109 goals.

In the women’s category, fresh off a Ballon D’Or win, Alexia Putellas was named The Best Women’s player after helping Barcelona to a treble in 2021.
The 27-year-old was instrumental to her club’s Primera Division, Copa de la Reina and Champions League titles in 2021.
Meanwhile, Chelsea made it a clean sweep of managerial awards as Chelsea women coach Emma Hayes was crowned The Best Female coach.
