Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen heaped praises on his players after Nigeria defeated Egypt on Tuesday evening.
The Super Eagles were 1-0 winners over the Pharaohs in their opening game of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon with Kelechi Iheanacho on target to seal the three points.
Nigeria were the much better side during the game as they completely dominated proceedings from start to finish.
Speaking to the press after the game, Eguavoen congratulated his players and admitted that they successfully carried out the coach’s plan.
“I want to congratulate my players on this sweet victory today. We had our plan for this game and everything was well executed,” he said.
“Coming into this game, we had the belief that we could beat the Egyptians and everything went well for us.

“When we assembled the players together, I told them to see me as their brother and not the coach. That is not say that they should take me granted.
“I also don’t call the other coaches assistants, I refer to them as my colleagues. So, we are one family and it reflected in our performance today.”
The coach also advised his team to keep working hard and promised to keep his side grounded for the entire competition.
“We all worked hard for this victory today. It’s just one game and we need to keep working hard in subsequent games.
“We have seen in other games that there are no pushovers here. We will remain humble and respect all our opponents.”
Eguavoen remains the only Super Eagles manager to have coached Nigeria to win all three group phase matches at the AFCON when they defeated Ghana, Zimbabwe and Senegal in 2006 in Egypt.
He would be hoping to replicate that feat in Cameroon as well in a bid for a fourth AFCON title.
Nigeria will face Sudan in their next Group D tie scheduled for January 15.
