The 2021 Africa Cup Of Nations, also known as AFCON 2021 officially kicks off on Sunday, January 9 and we bring you the complete schedule to serve as a guide to the tournament that promises to be entertaining.
Originally slated for June and July 2021, the competition was postponed to this year January and February, 2022. However, the tournament has retained its initial name AFCON 2021 instead of 2022 when it now holds due to promotional reasons.
Expect the AFCON which is hosted by Cameroon, to be nothing short of entertaining and competitive as the nations battle it out for not only the trophy but for pride.
AFCON 2021 is scheduled to be the 33rd edition of the tournament. It comprises of 24 teams which make up six groups.
The tournament will be played between January 9 and February 6, 2022. Algeria are the defending champions of the AFCON having won the 2019 edition.

AFCON 2021 Schedule: Grouping
Group A: Cameroon (hosts), Burkina Faso, Cape Verde Islands, Ethiopia
Group B: Guinea, Malawi, Senegal, Zimbabwe
Group C: Comoros Islands, Gabon, Ghana, Morocco
Group D: Egypt, Guinea Bissau, Nigeria, Sudan
Group E: Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone
Group F: Gambia, Mali, Mauritania, Tunisia
The group stages kick off on January 9 and ends January 20. After that, the round of 16 commences on January 23 to January 26.
The round of 16 is quickly followed by the quarter-finals slated for January 29 and 30. The tournament’s semi-finals will hold on February 2 and 3, while the final will hold alongside the third-place play-off on February 6.
