Super Eagles Handed Squad Numbers Ahead Of AFCON Opener Against Egypt

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been handed their squad numbers ahead of the forthcoming 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

Both home-based and abroad players invited to camp have been in rigorous training preparations ahead of Nigeria’s tournament opener against Egypt on Tuesday 11th January.

It is in lieu of the start of the competition that the Super Eagles squad members were allotted their jersey numbers.

In the goalkeeping department, Maduka Okoye retains his number one jersey, while Daniel Akpeyi and John Noble will put on numbers 16 and 27 respectively.

William Troost-Ekong takes jersey number five, Wilfred Ndidi takes four and Ahmed Musa takes seven.

Odion Jude Ighalo who reports suggest will not be able to make the squad as he was not released by his club, was handed the number nine jersey.

Despite a number of players unable to participate in the tournament for the Super Eagles, Nigerians are still quite hopeful of the squad selection.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen would no doubt be a big miss in the team. The 23-year-old was having a fantastic season with his club prior to a facial injury that has sidelined him for months.

In-form Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis will also be missed in attack with the Nigerian being in fine form for his club this season.
