Barcelona have announced the signing of Spanish forward Ferran Torres from Manchester City on a reported fee of €55 million.

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the La Liga heavyweights after successfully passing a medical on Monday.

Despite signing him in December, Torres’ move to Barcelona will be made official on January 1 when the winter transfer window opens. He will be unveiled as a Barca player at the Camp Nou on January 3.

Barcelona made the announcement via their website which read:

“FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Ferran Torres.

“The player has signed a contract for the next five seasons, until 30 June 2027, and his buyout clause has been set at 1,000 million euros.”

Torres was signed by Man City from Valencia for £21m in August 2020. He featured in 43 games for the English champions scoring 16 goals and providing four assists. The Spaniard won the Premier League and Carabao Cup during his stay at the Etihad.

In a statement confirming Torres’ departure, City director of football Txiki Begiristain said: “Ferran should be proud of what he has achieved here at Manchester City.

“Last season was his first time in a new country, but he adapted well. He always gave 100%, worked hard for the team and scored goals which helped us win trophies.

“Injury, unfortunately, prevented him from playing more games this season, but Ferran is a player we have all enjoyed working with and we wish him all the best at Barcelona and for the rest of his career.”

There have been rumours that players like Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo Silva would also be open to a move to Spain. Other speculations have continued to go around as the winter transfer window approaches.
