Lewandowski Reaches 300 Bayern Goals In Hertha Rout

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski reach the 300 goals mark in his side’s 5-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

The Poland international scored a hat-trick with Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala completing the rout of their visitors Hertha Berlin.

Bayern took an early lead through Thomas Mueller before Lewandowski struck either side of a Jamal Musiala goal.

The forward picked up from where he left off last season where he set a league and personal best of 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga games.

Not only was Lewandowski the Bundesliga top scorer —a feat he has achieved in six of the last eight years— but he was also the top scorer across Europe’s top five leagues.

Going into the game, Lewandowski had already scored two goals in two previous league games and four in all competitions for Bayern.

Lewandowski went into the game with 298 goals and with the hat-trick for Bayern, it meant he not only reached the 300 goal mark but surpassed it in what was his 333rd game.

He also set a personal best of scoring in 13 consecutive Bundesliga games, a run only bettered by the late Gerd Muller.

He also set the record of scoring in consecutive games having scored in 16 consecutive games for Bayern in all competitions, one more than Gerd Mueller, who scored in 15 consecutive games in 1969/70.

“We had the game under control and everything planned came off,” Lewandowski said after the match.

“I’m always hungry, I feel really good and I am always looking to reach the next level, always ready to improve.”

The hat-trick takes Lewandowski to the top of the goalscorers chart with five goals, eclipsing Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland who has three goals so far.

Most importantly, the win over Hertha Berlin takes Bayern Munich joint-top of the standings with Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg with seven points apiece.

Bayern will play against RB Leipzig in their next Bundesliga match on 11 September.
