Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has signed a new five-year contract extension at Real Madrid until the summer of 2026.
Courtois swapped Stamford Bridge for the Santiago Bernabeu in 2018, for a transfer fee of £35 million, in the process becoming La Liga’s most expensive goalkeeper.
He immediately established himself as a top goalkeeper, winning the competition with three-time Champions League winner, Keylor Navas to be Madrid’s no.1 goalkeeper, a process which saw Navas ultimately move to PSG.
After a turbulent first season, the Belgian stopper proved his worth and went on to win the Liga title in the 2019-20 campaign. He also won the Zamora trophy, after conceding just 20 goals in 34 matches.

In January 2020, Courtois’s penalty heroics helped Madrid beat City rivals, Atletico Madrid in a penalty shootout to win their eleventh Supercopa de Espana title.
On signing his contract extension, Courtois said:
“This is going to be my fourth season at the club of my dreams. It is an honour to have the opportunity to play for all these trophies. Personally, I hope to maintain and surpass the level I reached last season.”
The 29-year-old played his 100th game for Real Madrid in La Liga in the 4-1 win at Alaves. He has made 89 appearances so far for the senior Belgium national side, including five games at the Euro 2020 championship.
Courtois has made 130 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid, keeping 52 clean sheets. He had a disappointing season last season seeing the La Liga title slip through the club’s hands on the final day of the season to his former side Atletico Madrid.
Los Blancos were also eliminated from the Champions League by another of Courtois’ former side and eventual winners Chelsea.
