The DFL-Supercup or German Super Cup is a one-off football match in Germany that features the winners of the Bundesliga and the winners of the DFB-Pokal.
The German Super Cup match will be played between two of Germany’s most successful clubs; Bayern Munich and Dortmund on Tuesday at the Signal Iduna Park.
A match between Bayern Munich and Dortmund is always a classic, with controversy, drama, goals and passion a characteristic feature of the game. A face-off between these two clubs in a final, however, is sure to be a blockbuster and is a must-watch.
Let’s take a look at the chances of both sides.
Bayern Munich
Bayern will come as favourites to win the Super Cup. The German heavyweights beat Dortmund 3-2 in the last final to win the title. Apart from the fact that Bayern are the record holders with eight Super Cup titles, they have won four of the last five editions.
The Bavarians have won their last five games against Dortmund in all competitions. However, Bayern have not been at their best especially since the appointment of former Leipzig coach, Julian Nagelsmann.
They struggled in pre-season and had to come from behind to salvage a point against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday in their first Bundesliga game of the season.

Nagelsmann has not won a game since his appointment as Bayern head coach, however, there can’t be a better time to win than against Dortmund in a cup final.
Questioned about his side’s poor form, Nagelsmann had this to say:
“It is normal that we need time with the late pre-season preparation. You could see against Gladbach that we have room for improvement.”
Nagelsmann has big shoes to fill after he replaced multiple-trophy winner, Hansi Flick.
He said; “It would be nice to win the first title with the first win. This is an important game, against an opponent who started well in the league this season. We will of course try to finally get a win. Hopefully, it will work tomorrow.”
On their opposition and Erling Haaland he said;
“They have had a brilliant start to their season. What will be important is to control the space in front of our defence line. If we lose possession we need to immediately counter-press.
“We have to avoid deep passes behind the defensive line. We will try to win balls in our opponent’s half and try to counter-attack ourselves.
“Soccer is teamwork so we will try to work as a team tomorrow. Especially in defending against Haaland.”
Borussia Dortmund
BVB cruised to a 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga opener, with Erling Haaland showing why he’s one of the most sought after strikers in football.
The Norwegian scored two goals and set up two assists as they swept Frankfurt aside. Haaland also scored a hat-trick in their German Cup first round earlier this month.
Dortmund will be out for revenge, having lost 3-2 to Bayern in the final of the last edition of the Super Cup.
They will also be under pressure to clinch the trophy, given the fact that the final will be played at their own stadium.
They will be especially keen to win the German Super Cup again, having failed to win it consecutively following last season’s final defeat to Bayern.
“We’re playing three days after our first competitive game and have little regeneration time. But we’ll try to produce our best-possible performance on the pitch,” Dortmund manager Marco Rose said.
“When you come here, knowing the history of the club, you want to work towards competing for titles – that’s why I’m here. We’ll fight for that title.”
Can Bayern extend their record to nine German Super Cup titles or will Dortmund cause an upset and pile more pressure on Nagelsmann? Let us know in the comment section.
