Chelsea defender, Trevor Chalobah has reflected on his long-range goal against Crystal Palace in his Chelsea debut.
The 22-year-old has been working under Thomas Tuchel during the pre-season following his arrival from a loan spell at Lorient.
He made 29 appearances, scoring two goals and making two assists for the French side during the 2020-2021 season.
Prior to his loan spell at Lorient, Chalobah consistently rose from Chelsea youth teams of the U-18, U-21 and U-23 respectively.
He has also represented England in the UEFA Euro at the U-21 level, including the England Toulon tournament at the U-20 level.
During the 2019/2020 season, Chalobah was with Championship side, Huddersfield where he made 37 appearances with one goal and one assist.
Following his performance at Lorient, he returned to the Bridge in view of impressing the manager for a chance at regular football in the squad.
His hard work paid off as he was selected to start Chelsea’s Super Cup match against Villarreal which the Blues won.
On Saturday, Chalobah made his Premier League debut where he scored a long-range goal against Crystal Palace in the Blues’ league opener at Stamford Bridge.

Reflecting on his goal, the defender said;
“My shooting is not really good. But sometimes you can hit the ball and be surprised.
“As I got closer to the goal I decided I was going to shoot. I had the space, and the crowd were getting behind me. It was perfect.
“I didn’t know the ball had gone in! When I heard the crowd, I was like ‘wow, it must be a goal!’. I knew I hit it cleanly. The rest took care of itself!
“I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know what to do. I just dropped to my knees and I was crying, really. It was an amazing moment for me and my family.”
The emotion displayed by Chalobah after scoring the goal summed up everything he has been through to get to where he is at Chelsea.
“When I first started pre-season my aim was to impress the manager, day in, day out.
“Whether that’s training, being the first in training and doing what he wants, and giving my all, that’s what I have done since day one.
“He said I did well in the pre-season, but I was a bit surprised to start the Super Cup, but it shows my work has paid off.
“He has given me the opportunity and I have taken it with both hands. It’s important in football to stay consistent, stay grounded, stay hungry and always want more.
“I have been here since I was eight, and coming to Stamford Bridge to watch games, sometimes as a ballboy, sometimes with my family, Champions League nights, so to now get the chance to play for my home club is amazing. It’s a dream for a young player like me.
“I just wanted to enjoy it. It’s been a long-held dream to play for this club, so I made sure I was ready and enjoyed it. I wasn’t too nervous, and I just attacked it all.”
With Chalobah’s performance in the Super Cup and his Premier League debut, there’s no doubt that he has been able to force his way into Tuchel’s mind in terms of squad selection.
