Former Chelsea defender, Glen Johnson has urged Chelsea to sign England international, Declan Rice.
Chelsea have been in the race to sign the 22-year-old for some time now. It looked like the Blues cooled their interest in the midfielder following the departure of Frank Lampard but current manager, Thomas Tuchel has also re-ignited interest to sign the West Ham midfielder.
Sky Sports pundit and former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has urged Chelsea to secure Rice signature. However, he warned that the highly-rated England International must come to mutual terms with West Ham before any move.
Johnson also stressed that being on good terms with West Ham would mean that Rice will still have the fans’ love and respect.

Speaking about his stance on Rice, Johnson said;
“I think they can do with him because of the legs. He has got a lot of energy, he charges around and he’s super passionate so I think he would suit the club.
“As long as he leaves West Ham on good terms then they will still love him.
“I think he would suit the Chelsea team. Imagine the legs of him and N’Golo Kante. I would like to see that for sure.”
Rice started his football career playing for West Ham U-18 and U-23 respectively. Since his debut for the West Ham senior team, Rice has continued to impress, making 131 appearances in the Premier League which scoring five goals and four assists.
Rice was also part of Gareth Southgate’s England team that got to the final of the Euro 2020 which they lost to Italy.
The Hammers will not allow him to move away from the club on a cheap. West Ham have reportedly slapped a fee in excess of £50m for the midfielder.
Considering Rice’s age and prospects, he will no doubt be an excellent addition to Tuchel’s squad. His contract at West Ham will expire in June 2024.
