Chelsea Plot Move To Land Messi After Barca Exit

Reports say that Chelsea are currently in the race to sign Lionel Messi. The North London club first made a move for the Argentine back in 2014 with a fee of £225 million, a deal which could not materialize seven years ago.

To the consternation of everyone in the football community, the Barcelona hierarchy announced a few days ago that a new deal cannot be sanctioned for Lionel Messi stating that they could not afford to put the club into financial risk.

Messi has been without a club for the first time in his career since his contract at Barcelona expired at the end of June.

It is reported that a number of clubs are interested in breaking the bank to sign the left-footed attacker with the likes of PSG, Manchester City and Chelsea all interested.

The most likely destination for Messi appears to be PSG according to reports, Chelsea on the other hand are desperate to lure the Argentine to Stamford Bridge.

Reports suggest that Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovic has scheduled a meeting with the club’s hierarchy to discuss the possibility of bringing Messi to London.

Chelsea have faced a lot of disappointment in terms of transfers of players, only being able to sign a third-choice goalkeeper, Marcus Bettinelli.

The Blues are also chasing Romelu Lukaku with Inter holding on to a transfer fee in excess of £100 million.

With Abramovic interested in bringing Messi to the Bridge, a deal for Lukaku may not come into fruition if they eventually sign the former Barca man.

However, the Blues will face stern competition from PSG if not Manchester City because the Cityzens have already made a record transfer for Jack Grealish to further re-enforce their squad.

Considering the fact that Chelsea have been in the race to sign Messi since 2014, will they allow any other club to snatch him away from them?

Or will they drop the chase of Lukaku and concentrate solely on landing Messi? Let us know your views in the comments section.
