Man City have announced the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a Premier League record transfer fee of £100m.
Grealish becomes the first major signing by the Premier League champions after a relatively quiet transfer window thus far.
The England international has signed a six-year contract with Pep Guardiola’s side which not only makes him the most expensive player in Premier League history but in British football.
Grealish joined Aston Villa as a six-year-old, and has played his entire football career with the club.
He signed a new contract with Dean Smith’s side last year which would keep him at the club until 2025.
The 25-year-old was offered an improved deal this summer to remain at Villa Park when Man City came calling.
However, the opportunity to play in the Champions League and compete for silverware was too much for Grealish to turn down.

“I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City, City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club,” Grealish said.
“Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe.
“To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want. The facilities are amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started, meet everyone and get playing.”
City have now smashed their own transfer record set last summer when they paid £62m for defender Ruben Dias from Benfica.
The deal also surpasses the £89m deal that saw Paul Pogba move from Juventus to Manchester United in 2016.
Grealish was handed the number 10 shirt vacated by Sergio Aguero who is now a Barcelona player.
The attacker will be hoping to make his debut for Guardiola’s side in the Community Shield match against Leicester City on Saturday.
After securing the signing of Grealish, Man City are also reportedly after the signature of his England teammate and want-away Spurs striker Harry Kane.
However, unlike Aston Villa, Tottenham are unwilling to let their most important player go.
Spurs continue to play hard ball, refusing to sell Kane who is contractually tied to the club till 2024. This has led the England captain to refuse to train with the club in a bid to force an exit.
Kane remains top priority for Guardiola’s side who are not in the least bit put off by the valuation of the player which is reportedly worth €120m according to Transfermarkt.
