Leboeuf: “Kounde A Good Move But Won’t Start For Chelsea”

Former Chelsea defender, Frank Leboeuf believes the club’s move for Jules Kounde is a good move and believes they can secure the signature of the Frenchman.

Leboeuf however hinted that despite the fact that Kounde has risen as one of the finest central defenders in recent times, he doesn’t have the pedigree to walk into Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup.

The 22-year-old defender has sparked interest from different clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Chelsea have been in the run in to sign the Frenchman for weeks now but face stern competition from other clubs. They know they’ll have to be ahead of their rivals if they are to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

According to reports, Chelsea are willing to offer Kurt Zouma as part of the deal to secure Kounde’s signature. But Sevilla on the other hand, are not willing to consider a bid less than his release clause of £68million.

It is uncertain whether Chelsea will be willing to offer such an amount to Sevilla considering their continuous chase of other players like Romelu Lukaku. The Blues presented a bid of £85m plus Marcus Alonso to secure his services but had it rejected by Inter Milan.

Speaking about Kounde’s possible move to Stamford Bridge, Leboeuf pointed out;

‘He’s a fantastic player. He has everything. He is a warrior. He never gives up. He has everything. He is the future for sure,’ Lebouef told ESPN.

‘Maybe it’s an opportunity for Chelsea to get him maybe not this season, but next season.

‘I don’t know what Kounde wants to do in his life, if he’s ready to be on the bench more than he thinks he will be. It’s up to him. It would be a good signing for Chelsea.’

The 22-year-old joined Sevilla in 2019 and he has been able to establish himself at the club as a regular starter where he has made 89 appearances in total, racking up 6 goals and 2 assists last season.

Kounde was also part of the team that won the Europa League in 2020 with Sevilla. He made his senior team debut for France earlier this year and was also part of their Euro 2020 squad.
