It is expected that Liverpool will sign at least one forward before the summer transfer window closes and it is now being reported that Jonathan David is very high up on their striking targets for the summer.
Lille are reportedly facing a lot of financial challenges at the moment and their situation is closely monitored by Liverpool.
The Reds view the Canadian international as an ideal backup and potential replacement for their number 9, Roberto Firmino. This is because they possess almost similar playing patterns.
At just 21, the player is rated highly among his peers. David is pacy and has great movement on and off the ball. He drops deep regularly to help the attacking run of play.
The 21-year-old Canadian has made 29 appearances for Lille, 8 as a substitute. He scored 13 goals and provided two assists for the club last season.
David recently won the French Super Cup with Lille after they defeated eight-time winners of the cup PSG effectively sealing the double after winning the French Ligue 1 title back in May.

Liverpool however are faced with a challenge and it is one of the reasons they have not announced any signing yet after the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.
It is reported that Merseyside club have had an agreement with one or two players but, for them to be able to make any official signing, they will need to sell their fringe players to be able to sign the striker or anyone else.
Liverpool will need to free up space in their non-home grown quota as they have reached their limit with 17 foreign players.
The Reds have already shown the door to quite a number of their players such as Marco Grujic, Harry Wilson and Taiwo Awoniyi.
Loris Karius is also expected to leave the club but other picks to be on the move are the duo of Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi.
Shaqiri has made it known to the club that he wants a move away from Anfield in a bid for more playing time and Lazio seems like his likely destination.
Meanwhile, Origi is wanted by a lot of clubs both in the Premier League and other European clubs as well. The Reds would be willing to sell the striker at the right price.
Should he sign for the Reds, Jonathan David will be a great addition to the Liverpool squad. Lille will definitely want to recuperate the €27m they paid to Gent for the player. He currently has a market value of €35M according to Transfermarkt.
