Dean Henderson Missing From Pre-Season Camp Due To Covid-19

Manchester United and England goalkeeper Dean Henderson is absent from the club’s pre-season training camp in Scotland after recently contracting COVID-19.

The 24-year-old is said to still be feeling the effects of the virus which he tested positive to several weeks ago.

Henderson made 26 appearances for Manchester United last season, actively rotating the goalkeeping position with David De Gea.

He was initially called up to the England squad for the Euros by Gareth Southgate but was forced to withdraw due to a hip problem.

The keeper has reportedly recovered from that injury but still suffers some effects of the virus such as exhaustion and fatigue.

“Dean Henderson will miss Manchester United’s Scotland training camp while he continues his recovery from prolonged fatigue after contracting a COVID-19 infection three weeks ago,” the club said via their official website.

“He is expected to be training again soon.”

It is unclear whether Henderson will be fit enough to be considered for the first Premier League game of the season.

Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper De Gea linked up with the squad at the camp in Scotland on Monday. The Spaniard returned following his break after the Euros in which he represented his country.

Summer recruit Tom Heaton and Lee Grant have both been available and have featured in the previous pre-season fixtures.

United’s final pre-season friendly is against Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday. They kick off their Premier League season against Leeds United on 14 August.
